Performance Notes | The Royal College of Music Junior Department Jazz Ensemble's sixteen-piece big band makes its fifth appearance at Late Night Jazz in the Elgar Room, breaking down into smaller combos to perform a broad spectrum of jazz and world music, spanning swing, bebop, jazz-funk, latin, Afrobeat and other popular styles.
Led by saxophonist Mornington Lockett, tonights programme will include music by Artie Shaw, Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, the Jazz Messengers, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Robert Jospé, Lionel Loueke and Nate Smith.
This year, they will premiere a new work by Alastair Martin, and previous commissions include a piece for big band, which they premiered at Ronnie Scott's.
