Performance Notes | Hertfordshire Music Service is delighted to present the Hertfordshire Schools Gala on Sunday 23 March 2025. This will be a special 30th anniversary of the Gala at the Royal Albert Hall.
This years theme, For the record will be a vibrant celebration of music across the generations, exploring the ways we interact and connect with music, featuring music making from Hertfordshire Music Service and surrounding schools. A focus on youth voice within the theme has been supported with planning led by the 2025 Gala Youth Focus Group, who have shared their insights on engaging with music as young people today.
A massed choir of primary and secondary singers and the Hertfordshire County Youth Choir will perform alongside the Hertfordshire Schools Symphony Orchestra and the HMS Steel Orchestra. There will also be performances by instrumental and dance groups from Hertfordshire secondary schools, and the winners of the Gala Songwriter and Rapper competitions.
Highlights include songs such as When I Grow Up from Matilda the Musical by Tim Minchin, Cass Elliots Make Your Own Kind of Music, Believer by Imagine Dragons, and the epic finale Youre the Voice by John Farnham, with massed choirs and orchestra plus drummers, players from the HMS Steel Orchestra, and dancers.
To champion the breadth of Hertfordshires thriving musical ability, the Hertfordshire Schools Gala will be premiering a newly commissioned orchestral work by local young composer, Billie Reason, exploring the history, present reality, and imagined future of digital technology. |
