Performance Notes | The British Insurance Awards returns to the Hall. This year's event was your chance to Live Forever as a legend in the industry. We celebrated a champagne supernova of insurance excellence, honouring the game-changers, innovators and stars who are leading the way.
Protest: Followig their actions at the 2024 awards, Extinction Rebellion staged a protest outside the Hall. Activists held a die-in on the red carpet, making it hard for attendees to enter. They staged their own awards ceremony, including a "F***ing Up the Planet Awards." The ceremony also involved protestors playing a game of Guess The Fossil Fool. In a play on the Oasis-themed BIA event, the activists claimed the insurance industry was in stasis not Oasis profiteering from underwriting fossil fuel companies. Two activists were detained for several hours after getting into the venue and planning to take to the stage to drop a banner. Both were shortly released.
Digital Rebellion directed a online and social media campaign against this event, calling for the Hall to stop hosting this awards show. This was part of their wider Insure Our Survival campaign. On their website, they stated, "Tonight The Royal Albert Hall is hosting The British Insurance Awards. This is to be attended by insurers who are enabling fossil fuel extraction projects and in so doing, are underwriting climate chaos. There will also be those attending such as Aviva, AXA, and Allianz who are investing in and underwriting the companies arming the genocide in Gaza. Let's email The Royal Albert Hall to ask why they are hosting this private event; it certainly isn't inline with the sustainability initiatives their website describes, and we, the public want them to stop."
