Performance Notes | This feisty duo draw listeners into a world where driving folk rhythms collide with the high and low musical cultures of ancient Europe.
The feisty and experimental duo Horses Brawl draw listeners into a world where driving folk rhythms collide with the high and low musical cultures of ancient Europe. Finding inspiration in the melodies they seek out and stumble across, Horses Brawl improvise around phrases and fragments transforming these into their own mesmerising music.
Horses Brawl formed in 2003 when Laura Cannell and Adrian Lever came together for a short tour in East Anglia. They have since performed widely throughout the UK with their cutting-edge take on early and traditional music, and have performed live on BBC Radio several times.
Taking melodies from a broad range of musical influences the two performers experiment on guitar, prepared guitar, double-barreled recorders, crumhorn and fiddle to create vibrant contemporary compositions. With roots deeply embedded in traditional folk dance tunes their music has been described as "simultaneously accessible and challenging, virtuosic and experimental" by BBC Radio 2. |
