Performance NotesNicola Benedetti, one of the world’s most sought-after classical violinists, held a series of music workshops at the Royal Albert Hall ahead of her one-off recital at the Hall on 25 September 2013.

The three day project involved young musicians from the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. The project revolved around Bartok’s 'Divertimento for strings' and involved Nicola leading and coaching the students through the piece supported by conductor Hugh Brunt as well as professional players from the Hall’s resident education ensemble Albert’s Band. The project culminated with an auditorium performance from the ensemble on Saturday in front of friends and family.

The afternoon saw Nicola give three students from the Hall’s Tri-Borough Music Hub area the amazing chance to have a 1 on 1 violin masterclass. Ali Kayedoour from Westminster Academy, Lenna Segal from St. Marylebone School and Thomas Fetherstonhaugh from Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School all performed brilliantly and listened carefully to Nicola’s advice.

All three students left the Elgar Room full of excitement and inspiration. 13-year-old Lenna Segal said “It was brilliant. I had Nicola Benedetti commenting and giving me wonderful tips on how to improve my violin playing!”
