Performance Notes | "Precisely at half past two the programme opened with the lance exercise, which was gone through brilliantly by a squad from the Cavalry Depot, Canterbury, and this was followed in turn by gymnastics feats, bayonet exercise by the Marines, cavalry sword exercise by the Royal Horse Guards, the working of the Nordenfelt machine gun by the seaman and gunners of Her Majesty's ship Excellent, boxing, fire-escape practices, fencing, cutlass and broard-sword exercise, gun practise, singlestick, and wrestling and a tug of war between boys from Her Majesty's training ship St Vincent and boys from the Woolwich garrison concluded a most interesting assault-at-arms, which excited the utmost interest in the spectators."
