Performance NotesMulti-award-winning trumpet player Alison Balsom will perform at the Royal Albert Hall with her first solo show.

Experience an unexpected theatrical journey through Paris with pieces from Alison’s latest album and music very close to her heart. Accompanied by jazz trio and string section, this will be an exciting theatrical performance of music from Bach to Gershwin and Vivaldi to Piazzolla with some inspiring jazz interludes along the way.

Alison Balsom's first performance at the Hall came back in 1994 when she played in the trumpet section of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain at the 100th season of the Proms. She has since gone on to win three Classical BRIT Awards, including Female Artist of the Year in 2009 and 2011.

This concert is presented as part of the Hall’s prestigious Albert Sessions, an initiative that enables artists who have not previously headlined at the venue to showcase their talent on the main stage. As part of the Albert Sessions, Alison Balsom will support the Hall's education and outreach programme with an educational music workshop as part of its extensive public benefit remit.

The event formed part of Balsom's regional cities UK Tour, 'The Trumpet Sings'.

During the performance an audience member was invited onto the stage having won a Trumpet - the world's first 100% plastic trumpet.

The concert was attended by pupils from local Colville Primary School who had attended a workshop with Alison Balsom at the Hall on 2 October 2014. Each participant of the workshop was presented with a trumpet and participated in a small group performance, after which Alison chatted to the children and answered their questions.

The eventw as filmed for archive only.
