| Description | In 1937 an inventory of the Hall states that in the Royal Retiring Room is, A Louis XVI carved gilt wood settee, the square back with oval panel, the stuffed seat and back in ruby figured silk damask 7ft 6 inches. A ditto settee, 4ft 6 inches. A set of 6 standard chairs en suite. Also mentioned A set of 6 Louis XV style Fauteuils (wooden seats in the form of an armchair with open sides and upholstered arms), white enamelled and gilt, the stuffed seats and oval backs covered in crimson velvet. |
| Administrative History | The Halls Council Minutes (28 March 1968) note that the Hall General Manager wanted the furniture in the Royal Retiring Room re-gilded before the Halls Centenary in 1971. He had received a quote for £500 and was informed that the chairs were valuable. The following meeting minutes record that a Mr Arnold Wiggins, a furniture and picture frame restorer suggested that although not genuine Louis XVI furniture they were of considerable value and that any restoration should be carried out by an expert. |
