Description | From the left, a young sculptor carves the image of the crucifixion, whilst three women look on at the image he has created. To his right, a stone mason carves a font, whilst to the right of him a group of monks carve the recesses of a tomb. Next, Italian sculptor Nicola Pisano shows his plans for his now famous pulpit in Pisa. Benvenuto Cellini admires his work on a decorative cup. Finally, famous Italian artist Michelangelo pauses from his sculpture to look at his friend Cellini's work. |

Creator Name | Frederick Richard Pickersgill RA Frederick Richard Pickersgill RA (25 September 1820 - 20 December 1900) was an English painter and book illustrator. Born in London into a family of artists, he was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1840 and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839-1875. Most of these works depicted scenes drawn from literature, religion, and history. Pickersgill was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1847 and a full Royal Academician in June 1857, but retired in 1888. He was keeper of the Royal Academy Schools from 1873 to 1887. |
