DescriptionOn the far left, a monk is painting biblical drawings onto parchment. To his right, another monk shows his triptych (painting in three pieces) to a cardinal. To the left of the cardinal are his attendants, carrying his purse and Bible. To the right of the triptych, an artist is heating up enamel paints to paint a lectern (reading desk). Then, two ladies are posing for a portrait carrying flowers and fruit. Finally, the famous painter, Raphael paints a model posed as the Madonna with child.

Frederick Richard Pickersgill RA (25 September 1820 - 20 December 1900) was an English painter and book illustrator. Born in London into a family of artists, he was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1840 and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839-1875. Most of these works depicted scenes drawn from literature, religion, and history. Pickersgill was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1847 and a full Royal Academician in June 1857, but retired in 1888. He was keeper of the Royal Academy Schools from 1873 to 1887.
