DescriptionOn the far left of this section, a stone mason carves one of the marble panels of the Parthenon. To his right, a priest is leading the dedication or 'blessing' of a Greek temple. Next, we see a Roman building being built from carefully carved blocks of stone whilst to the right of this, a triumphant warrior returns victorious through a magnificent Roman arch. On the far right, a stone mosaic worker lays an intricate spiral pattern of mosaic pieces to a decorative twisted column.

Creator NameWilliam Frederick Yeames RA
William Frederick Yeames RA (18 December 1835 - 3 May 1918) was a British painter best known for his oil-on-canvas problem picture 'And When Did You Last See Your Father?', which depicts the son of a Royalist being questioned by Parliamentarians during the English Civil War. Yeames was a loose member of the St. John's Wood Clique artist's group and from 1859 exhibited at the Royal Academy and was made an Associate (ARA) in 1866. In 2000, a blue plaque commemorating Yeames was installed at his former home, 8 Campbell Road, Hanwell, London, where he lived from 1894 until 1912.
