| Description | Ladle from the 2025 Sumo Wrestling tournament
Before a match a wrestler receives water known as Chikara-mizu (power water) from another wrestler waiting in the ring. Using a ladle like this, the wrestler takes the water in his mouth, rinses it and then spits it out. This symbolic act which stems from the Shinto religion, purifies the wrestler's body and mind before stepping into the sacred ring. |
