Performance NotesThis was Sir Malcolm Sargent's last appearance at the Hall; he didn't conduct but took to the stage after Sir Colin Davis had made his conductor's speech, announcing to the audience that he would return for the next Proms season. According to the Times (18 September 1967), Sargent received "the loudest ovation that a last-night Proms audience...[had] ever produced". He said, 'I feel tonight I'm an intruder. I tell you why: I didn't win a seat in the ballot and I haven't bought a ticket!'. Sargent died 17 days later.
