At this meeting, Harry Edwards launched the '10 o'clock Healing Minute' in front of an audience of 6,000. This is still observed by spiritualists in the 2020s. "The first patient to be treated, Mr C Harms... a 65-year-old merchant seaman put his hands behind his head and moved his neck and legs freely for the first time after three years' painful arthritis. He had been to five hospitals, he declared. Mr Harms, obviously overwhelmed by his realisation that he was the cynosure of thousands of eyes, nodded his head when Edwards told him that he was a sufferer from 'poker back'.' Then he stoof up straight 'for the first time in three years' he told Edwards. Within a matter of seconds he was moving with a freedom which he found positively startling. Miss Mamie Hall, aged 29 who travelled all the way from Peel, Isle of Man, told a Psychic News reporter that he badly curved spine had been completely straightened. ... She intended to go home without using her crutches. Miss Gladys Gash... who runs a nursing home, declared that the goitre from which she was suffering had noticeably improved in the few seconds she had spent under Edwards' healing hands. 'The neck was quite had at that point,' she told our reporter. 'Now it is softer and smaller.' She had had the complaint for ten years, she declared. Miss Gash who is a qualified nurse, was introduced to spiritual healing by her mother Mrs S E Gash who is an ardent Spiritualist. Mrs Annie Fenner...had not been able to smell anything for more than 15 years owning to sinus trouble. A few seconds' treatment was enough. Edwards handed her a pink carnation and her face lit up; she could smell. Afterwards a woman reporter held a tiny bottle of eau de cologne under Mrs Fenner's nose. The healing was not the temporary effect of hypnosis. She really could enjoy its scent. ... An eight-year-old girl from Bournemouth, Jacqueline Blackburn, smilied shyly at the milling photographers and reports and then raised her hands over her head - for the first time ever. She had been spastic since birth. Ten yearold Morna White...was cripled by an attack of polio when she was three. Within a matter of seconds Edwards had straighened her crooked spine and, removing an iron from her leg, told her she could move it. She did move it. ... Mrs Alice Dale of Sutton was almost completely blind without her glasses. But she could see a flower when Edwards held one at some distance from her eyes. One woman walked unaided for the first time in five years. Her name if Mrs Olive Morris... She suffers from arthritis. ..." (Psychic News, 2 October 1954) |
