"A SELFRIDGE REVEL. ...The vast hall itself, for instance, was encircled with trees, hung with tiny mirrors like Japanese wind bells, and a brilliant effect was produced by the play of limelight and coloured rays from the roof. Another wonderful colour effect was added when some hundred of dancers in fancy dress took part in a maypole dance, under the direction of Mr Percy Nash. Perhaps the great 'hush! hush!' surprise was the outstanding event of a joyous evening. This was a giant push-ball, which was rolled into the room somehwere about midnight. Dancing went on merrily, and there were besides concerts and whist drives and suppers going on all the time. Finally, Mr Selfridge himself resorted to the cinematograph screen to convery one of his cordial message sto the staff, and also distributed many handsome prizes for the best fancy dress costumes."
