Performance Notes | "MENUHIN THRILLS 6,000 BY HIS PLAYING. ...The Royal box, specially lent by the King and Queen for the occassion, was occupied by a party of wounded Service men wearing the distinctive bright bue uniform with red tie. They were accompanied by nursing sisters from St Mary's Hospital. ...At the end of the Vieuxtemps Concerto, Yehui Menuhin was recalled three times by an enthusiastic audience. SO crowded was the gallery that many people were standing throughout the whole concert... After being recalled several times by these insistent demands, Yehudi Menuhin gratified the audience's wishes with a solo. He played a transcription for violin of a Bach Concerto," (The Daily Telegraph, 27 June 1945) |
