Performance NotesThe meeting was, 'conceived as one whole divided into two halves, with speakers and readers each playing a specific part in the whole.' There were no formal introductions of speakers and readers and the audience were asked not to applaud throughout.

The reading by Jill Balcon in Part II of the programme was taken from letters betwen a Japanese woman and her husband who died from radiation effects of the first Atomic bomb on Hiorshima in August 1945.

The poem 'Dear Brothers in Iniquity' was specially written for the occassion by Jacquetta Hawkes.

Dr Gruber's own translation of the full text of his speech is printed in the programme.
