Biography | Michael Zacharewitsch was a violinst. At the age of 12 he performed Tchaikovsky's violin concerto at Odessa which so impressed the composer, who conducted the work himself, that he got up a subscription to enable the youthful soloist to go to Prague and study under Sevcik.
After some nine years with Sevcik, Zacharewitsch continued his studies with Ysaye in Brussels, but he had already, with his appearance in 1893 at Amsterdam under Mengelberg, began his career as a virtuoso which was to take him over four of the five continents and to most of the European capitals. He gave his first recital in London in 1903 and toured the English provinces. |
