Royal Retiring Room Suite of Furniture In 1937 an inventory of the Hall states that in the Royal Retiring Room is, ‘A Louis XVI carved gilt wood settee, the square back with oval panel, the stuffed seat and back in ruby figured silk damask 7ft 6 inches. A ditto settee, 4ft 6 inches. A set of 6 standard chairs en suite.’ Also mentioned – ‘A set of 6 Louis XV style Fauteuils (wooden seats in the form of an armchair with open sides and upholstered arms), white enamelled and gilt, the stuffed seats and oval backs covered in crimson velvet.’ c. 1760s-1780s?
