The band released a 7" single in 1961 (Brigitte Bardot/The Yellow Rose Of Texas). The Confederates played gigs at the Congo Club, a youth club run by the Acton Congregational Church, and covered Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, and Lonnie Donegan. However, Entwistle and Townsend became influenced by the increasing popularity of rock 'n' roll, with Townshend particularly admiring Cliff Richard's debut single, "Move It".
