After winning the Melbourne "Sun" Aria and other major singing scholarships and awards, went abroad to study in Paris in 1961. He was invited to become the principal dramatic baritone at Sadlers' Wells Opera, appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and regularly with the Welsh National Opera.
