Music Group; Choir; youth Founded in October 1956 by Malcolm Parker L.G.S.M., the Wimbledon (Merton) Girls' Choir was a well known cultural feature of the borough for nearly nine years. Recruited from local girls, the choir appeared not only at the Wimbledon Theatre but represented the young singing talent of the local area at venues throughout England and Europe. The choir recorded 'Winter Waltz' with Bill McGuffie, which was available as a 45rpm vinyl record. In 1967, the Wimbledon (Merton) Girls' Choir amalgamated with a junior choir, the Sweet Seventeens, to become the Wimbledon Girl Singers. As the Wimbledon Girl Singers, the choir continued for another two decades.
