Dance Group The HOVERLA Ukrainian Dance Ensemble was originally formed in 1972 and adopted its name from the highest mountain in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountain Region. This highly regarded and successful dance troupe has captivated many audiences with their colourful, exciting and energetic displays. It has gained recognition both nationally and internationally. The Ensemble based in Derby perform traditional Ukrainian folk dances accompanied by their own talented musicians. The Ensemble has taken part in numerous international festivals and concerts both in Britain and Europe, the climax being in 1986 when first place was gained in the Folk Dance section at the World famous Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales. Hoverla has also appeared several times on British and European television and had the privilege of performing in front of members of the Royal Family on a number of occasions. During the summers of 1999, 2001 & 2005 Hoverla embarked on successful tours of their homeland, Ukraine. This experience served to strengthen their commitment to sharing the rich heritage of their cultural roots. In 2005 the highlight was performing on Maydan Nezalezhnosty (Independence Square) in Kiev where The Orange Revolution took place. In September 1999 & 2004 Hoverla visited Osnabrück in Germany (Twinning city of Derby), via invitation, where they participated in an International Cultural Diversity Festival proudly representing the City of Derby. In 2006 Hoverla was invited to Munich in Germany to participate in the 60th Anniversary of the formation of the Ukrainian Youth Association in the Free World. In July 2011 Hoverla participated in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, exactally 25 years after the previous generation of dance gained 1st place.
