He was a former rugby player, but turned to professional wrestling. He was trained by South African promoter Johan "Bull" Hefer. He turned professional in 1956, aged 2. He settled in Britain for a few years, fighting against the likes of Clay Thompson, Johnny Kwango, Charlie Fisher, Dave Armstrong, Majid Ackra, Tony Mancelli and Johnny Yearsley.
