After studying at the Royal Academy of Music and subsequently at the Royal College of Music, as a member of the then brand-new Britten Opera School, she embarked on a professional singing career which has taken her across Europe and to the United States. She has appeared in international music festivals, including Aix-en-Provence, Grenada, Edinburgh and Llivia and has also been heard on radio and television recordings and on various film and advertising soundtracks. Rachel’s wide solo repertoire ranges from the 15th century to the present day. She was the alto soloist for the Lecosaldi Ensemble, with whom she performed a long series of cantatas by J.S. Bach and Telemann and in 1992 she became a founder-member of ‘The Academy of Vocal Arts’, a solo vocal ensemble specialising in the vocal music of the early Renaissance. She has also worked with world-famous professional ensembles such as the Netherlands Radio Choir, the Hilliard Ensemble (in Arvo Pärt’s St. John Passion), the Schütz Choir and The Sixteen, with whom she has made a number of CD recordings. She was a soloist in Penderecki’s Canticum canticorum, performed in London under the baton of the composer, and has worked with Lutoslawski, Messiaen and also with Sir Michael Tippett on his oratorio A Child of our Time. She made her debut with English National Opera in Wagner’s Der Meistersinger and has worked with many of the world’s top conductors. Rachel is also employed by Lincoln Minster School as a singing teacher for their Vocal Scholars and Lincoln Cathedral Girl Choristers.
