His first job was as co-Principal trumpet with the Royal Opera House. This allowed him chance to work with major conductors such as Carlos Kleiber, Sir Colin Davis and Sir Georg Solti. He toured extensively with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, being their youngest recruit in history, and with the English Brass Ensemble and the London Sinfonietta.
