Jard van Nes (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto), Born: June 15, 1948 - Zwolle, Holland The Dutch mezzo-soprano, Jard van Nes, studied at the Conservatory in The Hague with Herman Woltman from 1973 to 1978. Jard van Nes made her concert debut in 1975 at the Holland Festival, where she later created the title role in Theo Loevendie’s Naima in 1985. She made her operatic debut in 1983 at the Netherlands Opera as Bertarido in Rodelinda. Jard van Nes is a concert, oratorio and lieder singer, with also opera on her repertory. She sang roles in works of a.o. George Frideric Handel, Wagner (Brangäne, Fricka, Erda), Verdi (Ulrica) and Richard Strauss. She worked in the "Holland Festival" and performed the title role in the premier of Naima (1985, Loevendie). Lots of appearances inside and outside her country, among others in Salzburg (Die Zauberflöte), the USA and Canada. Jard van Nes' recordings include works by J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel, Johannes Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody and music by Luciano Berio, but her grave, finely moulded singing is perhaps heard at its best in the works of Gustav Mahler.
