Noël Eadie was noted for a faultless technique and the purity of her tone, which made her an excellent Mozart stylist but also allowed her to sing heavier lyric repertoire in major houses. She was educated at St Leonard's School in St Andrews, and studied singing privately with the Australian soprano Esta d'Argo. Her extensive concert career began with a Wigmore Hall recital in 1922. Her operatic debut was as Queen of Night with BNOC on tour in Edinburgh, and she sang half a dozen roles with that organization. including Rosina, Gilda and Mimì. She first sang in the International season at Covent Garden as Gilda, opposite Gigli, and also appeared there as Queen of Night and Cio-Cio-San. The same year she made her debut at Chicago, also as Queen of Night. She had particular success in a number of early performances at Glyndebourne, singing Queen of Night (1935, 1936) and Konstanze (1935).
