Tim Melville-Ross was appointed as Chair of the HEFCE Board in January 2008 by the then Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education. Tim Melville-Ross chaired the Council of the University of Essex. He currently chairs the Homerton University Hospital NHS Trust and, in addition, is President of the Institute of Business Ethics. Previously, he was the Chief Executive of the Nationwide Building Society, Director General of the Institute of Directors, chair of Investors in People UK, and chair of Royal London Insurance. He was awarded the CBE in 2005 for services to workplace learning and development.
