Stephen Jackson is one of Britain’s foremost choral directors. He has directed TCM Chamber Choir since 1990 and built it into one of the most active ensembles of all the London conservatoires, performing on BBC Radio, at the BBC Proms (most recently in 2010), at all the major London concert venues and on tour in France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. Stephen is also widely known as Director of the BBC Symphony Chorus whom he has prepared in a huge repertoire for more than 50 maestri, including Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle and Roger Norrington, and composer-conductors such as Luciano Berio and John Adams. Stephen regularly conducts the Symphony Chorus himself, in the concert hall, on tour and in the recording studio. Two CDs of works by Carl Rütti and Judith Bingham were named Editor’s Choice of the Month by Gramophone Magazine. He has particularly extended the range of the ensemble’s a cappella repertoire which, uniquely for a choir of its size, features such major scores as Schoenberg Friede auf Erden, Strauss Der Abend and Poulenc Figure humaine.
