Sachio Fujioka was born in Tokyo in 1962 and from the age of 16 studied conducting with both Kenichiro Kobayshi and Akeo Watanabe. In 1990 he moved to the UK taking up post-graduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he was the first holder of the Sir Charles Groves Conducting Fellowship. Since 2001 he has held the position of Principal Conductor of the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra in Osaka.
