The German tenor, Paul Kaufmann, received his musical education in Halle. After his studies, he worked from 1999 to 2004 as composer and arranger at the Theater Apron in Halle, where he composed the music for a lot of theatre pieces. During this time he studied voice with Professor Roland Schubert at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. After two seasons as a fellow of the Franz-Josef-Weisweiler Stiftung, in 2006-2007 Paul Kaufmann has become a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he is singing roles like Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, 1. Geharnischter, Monostatos, 2. Priester in Die Zauberflöte, Nando in Tiefland, Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer, Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos, Remendado in Carmen, 2. Jude in Salome, Der Bucklige in Frau ohne Schatten, Wirt in Der Rosenkavalier, David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser. Paul Kaufmann has been a guest at the Komische Oper and the State Opera Berlin, in Dresden, Leipzig, at the Gulbenkian in Lisbon (Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos), Grand Theatre de Génève Valzacchi in Rosenkavalier) and in Toulouse (Euryanthe, Elektra and Tannhäuser). Paul Kaufmann appeared in a highly acclaimed concert with the Bayerische Rundfunk Paradisi Gloria in October 2010. Besides his performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, future plans include projects again in Toulouse, with RSB Berlin and NDR.
