Ricarda Merbeth grew up in Chemnitz, Germany. In 1989, upon completing her studies in voice and education at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy conservatory in Leipzig, she was offered a contract as lyric soprano with the Municipal Theater in Magdeburg, followed by a one-year’s engagement at the German National Theater in Weimar. From 1999 until 2005, she was a member of the Vienna Staatsoper. She is regularly invited to perform in Vienna where she made her role debut as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, in the title role in Jenufa and as Elsa in Lohengrin. In April 2011, she was nominated “Kammersänderin” by the Vienna Stattsoper.
