London-born Oliver Johnston is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music where has won many awards, including a Countess of Munster Scholarship and the prestigious Maidment Scholarship. He is generously supported by the Sickle Foundation, The Mills Williams Foundation and the Josephine Baker Trust. Operatic performances include Melchior in the world premiere of Wakening Shadow with the London Philharmonic Orchestra/Vladimir Jurowski; the tenor sailor Billy Budd in New York with Sir Mark Elder; Stroh Intermezzo for Garsington Opera; and Giuseppe La Traviata, Wirt Der Rosenkavalier (cover) and Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi for Glyndebourne Opera. Other roles include Pedrillo Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Sellem The Rake's Progress, Rodolfo La Bohème, title role Albert Herring, and Pylade Iphigénie en Tauride. A keen recitalist, Oliver has performed at London's Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, the London Handel Festival and the Chichester Festival. Oliver recently recorded a previously unheard Schubert cantata as part of BBC Radio 3 Schubertiade Series. Engagements this season and beyond include Ferrando Cosi fan tutte (cover) for Scottish Opera, Second Nazarene Salome for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and debuts for the Opéra national de Bordeaux and Opera North.
