Toby Thompson is a performance poet based in London, hailing from Bath. His career jump-started at just 16 when he was commissioned to write a poem expressing his feelings about how Shakespeare was taught in schools. He first performed “The System" to an audience of education and performance practitioners including Kate Tempest and Cicely Berry of the RSC who later asked him to perform it at the Roundhouse Theatre in Camden and at the House of Lords. Later filmed by the RSC, it was published on their website and YouTube channel. Since then his journey has taken in appearances at most major UK festivals (Glastonbury Slam Champion) and he is a favourite on the London and west country spoken word circuit. His frequent collaborations include The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company, Lyrix Organix and Tongue Fu and he has delivered numerous commissions.
