Married to Gina Bachauer, pianist. As a violinist, Alec Sherman was a memeber of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from its inception in 1930. He became the arisitstic director and permanant conductor of the New London Orchestra when it formed in 1941. In 1943, he was appointed co-conductor of the Sadler's Wells ballet with whom he remained for 2 years. In 1944, he inaugurated the Hampton Court Serenade concerts.
